The battery life isn't great with the AA's (just over an hour). I might add more things to this one later but I'm building another at the moment with a larger screen. Managed to keep it as stock looking as possible which was the goal so I'm happy with how it's turned out. Anyway, here are some 'finished' photos (lcd looks odd in photos only, not in reality):

You should publish a guide. I would LOVE to have a close to "stock" (aka, not torn up on the outside) as possible.

The only differences to other people's builds really is that I used overscan to get it to display well in the original gameboy screen space. A composite screen would be better than the spi screen i used though. And I also slightly shaped the 'ext connector' port area so the usb port sat flush, which meant dremelling out a small area of the cartridge slot, as you'll see with most other buillds the port normally sticks out a bit as they're too long for that area without cutting the case slightly. I think that's about it. I'll take a few more photos of the inside when I open it up again if I remember.

Updated first post with parts list.

Here's the sound card I used, not seen others use this one so posting a few photos:

I removed the ports to make it just a very thin board. Before and after autopsy:

Why is using a composite screen better than using an SPI one?

I've only used composite screens (have to start to build, but modified the screens already)

What I can tell the SPI screens seem to have a clearer picture (more sharp) than the composite screens.

Is it perhaps the refresh rate which is to low?

And a really nice finish your GBZ has....looks really original 8-)

Thanks. Yes, it's because the refresh rate isn't good by comparison. The spi screens do give a nice clear image, and the composite ones give a softer image, but have a much better framerate.

Currently building a new one with composite. Will post pics soon of that.

How did you get the SPI display to work. I've been trying, failing, and trying to get mine to work. I've tried following the fbtft wiki but I nothing seems to work. I have three different displays but none work.

I think if I remember rightly I used the Waveshare drivers and followed 'Senkun's information here:
