using a Smartphone Display instead

Post by Fleder » Fri May 13, 2016 1:54 am

Hi there,

does someone know if it is possible to use the display of a smart/mobile phone?
I've got a cheap 3.5" one laying around, so i wonder if it is possible to use this, too.

I doubt you'd be able to find a driver board for it. I've got a bare panel from an old SatNav, but no way of connecting it up to the Pi. It's exactly the right size which really sucks, but at least I can use it for test-fits until my display arrives.

Damn, I haven't thought of the driver board...
That would've been a cheap and good quality display. Well, back to searching.

Thanks!

You may have seen this already, and it's hardly a speedy delivery from China, but I've ordered one of these:

I think it's the same as some of the monitors people are buying from Amazon, the one with the nice small driver board.

It may be possible, with a strong emphasis on may. :)

I already have one, but i am not at all happy with the resolution on those.
That is why i asked. I can't believe there are no affordable 3,5" displays around, with a better resolution than 320x240...

That is pretty cool! might need miniaturising a bit more to make it useful inside these small projects

That would be awesome to use an iPhone 4 screen. The display would be beautiful.

I read about the component. Looks like it is not in mainstream production, but you can get it for $99 USD+s/h from here: http://creotech.pl/en/produkt/mipi-dsi- ... adapter-2/

Too pricey for me.
