Re: [Pre-Order] Safe Shutdown Switch (BangGood Edition)
For the low battery script on this version, does this have two levels of warning? (First warning: battery is low, save your game. Second warning: critically low, shutting down)

I would like to know that too... that would be perfect...RxBrad wrote:For the low battery script on this version, does this have two levels of warning? (First warning: battery is low, save your game. Second warning: critically low, shutting down)

This can be controlled by the script. Originally, Popcorn's script would alert you when the PowerBoost's low battery LED started flickering. When it went solid, the Pi would shut down.RxBrad wrote:For the low battery script on this version, does this have two levels of warning? (First warning: battery is low, save your game. Currently, this board will alert when the battery gets to 3.2v. You can do whatever you want at that point. What I'd suggest (and I can develop this if people want it) is an alert with a timed delay to give you time to save. After the delay, the GBZ would shut down.
3.2v may be a little late. I've seen my WiFi dongle shut off as the battery starts getting close to a critical level. To be honest, I hadn't considered to alert on two voltage levels. The chip I use has two comparators. The problem is, you'd need yet another GPIO connection. The board already has quite a few connections already. Anyway, I can adjust the values to be 3.3v? What are peoples' experiences/opinions on low battery levels?
Just to make you aware, I've been working on a new power monitor script and the alert videos are something I will be looking at next, so I can change how it operates depending on which version you're using. It'll be one script for both versions, and it also modifies the /boot/config.txt so you don't have to.

Re: [Pre-Order] Safe Shutdown Switch (BangGood Edition)
3.2v is a bit low on a lipo...
see this chart:

on 3.2v, the lipo is completely dead...
On my hobby grade lipo's, i don't go below 3.3, that's the absolute minimum i want to go to.
other than that, a battery level indicator would be prime, i am adding this myself, so i can check the battery level.

Re: [Pre-Order] Safe Shutdown Switch (BangGood Edition)
@BadBert Thanks, maybe 3.3v would be best. I'm currently experimenting with an ATTiny85 for battery level sensing. Since it has ADC pins, I can use a script on the Pi to query the ATTiny85 using I²C.
I thought it would be nice to have a battery meter on-screen at all times. In fact, I think Kite has already written a screen overlay app for a battery meter.

I think a standalone would be better. (nothing to do with me already having boards cough cough) You already have two shutdown variants and I don't see a reason this would need to be combined with safe shutdown since you would be needlessly limiting the interest base. You could do one pre-order and everyone who is interested could buy it as opposed to only those with a powerboost while banggood users have to wait and vice versa. :/Camble wrote:YesI will post updates when I can. I think it will be integrated into a board, but was thinking a stand alone board would also be handy.
