Hi there!

Some progress update for ya!

Firstly, i believe i have mostly all the components i need now, delivered just nicely. The screen arrived first, so i began taking that apart, and prepping it. I still haven't modded it for 5v compatibility, but that'll come soon enough.

I made sure not to damage any parts, dealing with the nasty adhesive goop. double-sided tape-foam? no thanks...

Additionally, i have a question or two: why do people add a full-size usb port to their builds?

also, could someone give me a rough run-down of the software part of the project? do i just make sure to format the sd correctly, fit it with retropie, and away we go?

This is really coming along!

Huh. That's odd. Does anyone have any idea as to why my images aren't showing?

Edit: NVM. I fixed it. It was a silly mistake.

Ah, so sorry about that! I tried a couple of times, but they didn't implement properly, and just showed the text code! Any idea what I did wrong?

Got it now! thanks a bunch. You wouldn't happen to be able to direct me to the directions on how to convert the screen pcb to run off 5v?

it looks like a BW variant 6 (check the wiki)

edit: seems like the wiki links to a different board, dunno why. you might get lucky in the "alternative displays - please contribute" thread but i'm way too lazy to search all 40 pages for you. good luck!

Yeah, the redirection is what stumped me too. Ah, I forgot about that thread. Thanks! I'll have a look.

The images still get loaded by the browser when in spoilers, it just makes viewing them optional when revisiting and faster to get to text content. Always spoiler big things!

Full size USBs are the most common, and it fits the port window very well.

Just go to the retropie website and download the latest .ISO. Burn it to the sd card and then load it with roms. You'll also want to get a custom start up video (original gameboy boot video or whatever), do optimizations, set up the config.txt, and download packages and whatnot. Google is super powerful so we don't really discuss this a whole lot here.
