Issue: Extremely choppy and quiet audio through speaker.

Solution: Added resistors as suggested by Helder which, instantly increased the volume and reduced the choppiness to a very playable level. No other steps were required apart from hookup as shown on Helder's wiring diagram and the config file, both of which are found on page 1 of this thread.

My setup: AIO 2.2A with 5 pin audio jack, Raspberry Pi v1.3, Adafruit Powerboost 1000C TPS61000, and 8 Ohm 1/2 Watt speakers https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WW ... UTF8&psc=1

Parts Required: Two 75ohm 1/2 watt resistors, Three 1.5 inch long pieces of extra PWM or audio wire and a small piece of perf board.

Resistors from https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002 ... UTF8&psc=1

To do:
Place resistors into the perf board parallel and adjacent to each other and solder the ends together on one side to make a U shape.
Solder a wire from the bottom of the U, on the side you just joined, to the Speaker - pad on the AIO.
On the other side of the perf board, solder a wire from the end of one resistor to the right side of R15.
Solder another wire from the end of the other resistor to the right side of R16.
Done

You do have extra perf board that you used for practice, right?! :)

Can someone help me? I tried the above to reduce cracking of the sound after shielding the speaker cables. but now I have no sound at all.

try hookung the resistors you added to the speaker + pad not -
Sadly this did not work. Still no sound. Do you have some other options?

So this helped my volume a lot. Now my problem is that it is still fairly low. If I change the value of the added resistors will that increase the volume output? If so what size resistor should I use? Maybe I could use 2 small potentiometers instead so I can adjust them until I get the volume I want.

As I've said before you just remove those 2 resistors and use some new valued resistors like 75ohms in their place, even 51ohms will work.

If anyone wants to buy the correct sized parts look here:

Post pictures of your wiring and does the headphones work? did you use the PWM Audio in the config.txt in the first post?

I recently had someone send me back their board for repairs (I tested it before shipping) with the USB and after getting it I could see that the pads were burned right off. So pictures are needed to see if any kind of damage and or wiring mistakes might the issue.

Hey Helder, thank you for your message.

My headphone is working but there is a lot of static.

see the pictures below for the audio wiring, are there some other pictures you need?

Here is the issue I have always had with the sound, the video I recorded makes it sound louder than it actually is I already changed the resistors to 10ohm SMD (previous post way back) which helped however the headphones are still a lot louder than the speaker.

https://youtu.be/O3kCdGHYgnY

Now as you can hear the high tones cut out all the time to solve this the volume has to be turned down to below half way making it almost impossible to hear at all weird thing is that the issue is not present when using headphones??? would this be the amp or the speaker causing this?

Fist of all My GBZ is done @Helder Thx for the boards.

I had same problem with USB WIFI Dongle but work now with your Fix on first Post.
I Also can say that my Old Razer Arctosa Keyboard work with USB1.1 so u can add it to the list :D

I have now Static Sound on my Jack and when SD card is reading i can her it. What can i do against this?
Atm i have no Speaker conectet maybe it will fix it when i get my Visaton BF32 tomorrow?

And somone ask about this 6 pin Jacks. I got 1 also. I testet it with both conectet together and without connection. it works both so i dont know for what this 6 pin really is, but doesnt matter if connectet or not.

Hello everyone

Sorry Helder- i am very disappointed with your V2.2. Board.
Thats my 8th GameBoy - I have tested various configs. GPIO, Teensy, Leonarde, USB Sound ....

This is the worst build i have ever done!!!

Sound: totally anoying! static noise on headphone jack, speaker just loud enough - but far far far away from 3W amplifier
USB: total mess! USB 1.1 - several WiFi dongles and Keyboards testet. Finally i have added a 3$ USB Hub and just ignored your USB HUB.
Screen: Several Problems with interferences due to PWM sound or what else. Tested 3 screens, shielded every wire till it finally works "perfect"

I'll never use one of your boards again. Buying a 10$ PCB + 80cent USB Sound + 37cent USB Flexhub + 17 cent 3W Amplifier + 40cent Headphone jack --> perfect working solution for less than 12$
You AIO costs >40$ AND it takes so much time to make it somehow run.

Thanks for the experience. I'm done

You're free to your opinion and if you're unhappy just sell the board as I'm sure someone will buy it off of you without any hassle. If it's more cost effective to do a DIY then that's fine as I just gave people a consolidated option of many of the most commonly used parts into a simple package.

PWM sound if you read around the forums is analog and is very prone to interference from data lines so shielding is recommended and if you don't want to use PWM sound you can use USB with the board as well as I have stated often but thanks for the feedback.

What value resistors did you use in the R15&R16? I see you also changed the ones in the R17&R18 so what are those values there?

Thanks for the feedback on the socket, so do you hear sound in the headphones? and you did the PWM settings in the config.txt?

Try moving your PWM audio wires away from power and data lines, I see your Pi is right above the PWM solder pads and I can't really see the PWM wires and how you routed them, shorten them too so there is less interference and possibly twist them too like the usb wires.
