Battery in Canada
Battery in Canada
Hey, so JohnnyFYVE mentioned here that it would cost an additional 50$ to ship to Canada from the adafruit website. In the same thread they mentioned chinese sellers on ebay, which is probably where ill turn. I'm only hesitant because I've read in other threads that the capacity from some of these sellers isn't as marked (or advertised?). Just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get a solid battery in Canada without paying a ridiculous price. Thanks!

Re: Battery in Canada
I can't speak for Chinese ones. But I just got mine sent from the UK to Australia. Came quickly, well priced and while I have yet to use it, looks to be of good quality.

Re: Battery in Canada
Yeah I'm going to be ordering a couple off eBay just to have a look at them. I could probably buy 5 off eBay for the price I had to pay from Adafruit....

Its the UK ebay, but the seller is in china (according to the postage).Mtuckey wrote:I can't speak for Chinese ones. But I just got mine sent from the UK to Australia. Came quickly, well priced and while I have yet to use it, looks to be of good quality.

Let us know how your ebay ones turn out Johnny. I'll likely order a couple later today. I might try and boost the capacity up to 3k or even 3500 mAH if i can fit it. I'd love to get 4+ hours out of it.

Re: Battery in Canada
I bought this one for my second build. Price isn't too bad...Haven't received it yet, still waiting on the pi zero for my order to ship.

For my first build I just bought a cheap galaxy note battery from ebay, it works fine and was only about $10ish?

For sure will do... Might be a while off. Some of the stuff I've ordered from China is taking forever lol
Re: Battery in Canada
Hey no worries. I started ordering stuff in July I think. It's been quite a while. The battery is the last thing I need now.

Re: Battery in Canada
Just curious if your battery had 4 terminals? If so did you just solder wires to one of each, + and -?bammeh wrote:I'm using an old Samsung 2600mAh cell phone battery I found. see what you've got lying around

Re: Battery in Canada
Another option is to buy locally.
Most Canadian cities will have at least one electronics supply/robotics/maker store. Most will actually stock Adafruit or Sparkfun products, so you don't need to order the batteries at all.
https://www.sparkfun.com/distributors
https://www.adafruit.com/distributors
Alternatively, if you live near the border, you can have it shipped to a border mail service - basically a business that will receive and hold your parcel for you for a nominal fee - then just drive down to pick it up.* It would be more expensive than buying from a local source (it's probably more expensive than mail-ordering from a Canadian source if you can't find one locally), but it should be a little cheaper than Adafruit's Canadian shipping costs, particularly if you order a bunch of stuff at the same time.
*Assuming you're allowed into the US, now.
