Raspberry pi 3 (Removed USB Ports) Broken?
Raspberry pi 3 (Removed USB Ports) Broken?
I Slimmed down my Raspberry pi 3, Took out the Ethernet and USB ports, now when soldering direct to the pads my USB does not function, I tried all four direct and test pads ( PP49 Ground, PP45 D+ , PP44 D- , PP27 VCC- USB ) I get no response with my keyboard or any other device, Not to mention I have a yellow lighting bolt at the top right corner of my display I don't know if that may be also causing my USB to not function? any help would be appreciated, I am planning on making a Gameboy Pi 3. Will post pictures of my pi 3 hopefully someone can tell me if I damaged anything based on pics, Thanks for looking.

Re: Raspberry pi 3 (Removed USB Ports) Broken?
Hey mate
If you were reading my thread - my pi 3 build I can tell you this happened to me as well.
What has happened is that the desoldering of the ports has most likely caused one of the pcb layers to short out - Therefore you do not have 5V coming out of the usb ports. Check this please.
If you are getting 5 V - check if your data lines are correct. If you see no change - it is definitely a shorted pcb layer. This happened to me using a 400* professional soldering pump. If you were tocut the pi 3 you can see that there is about 3-4 layers. If they short - they can kill the whole pcb. I lost my 5v to usb and it caused my pi 3 to die 2 h later because i back fed 5 v.
I would suggest checking with a microscope - or trying to remove as much solder as you can.

Thank you very much, I took my volt meter and I'm not getting 5v, I think Its dead, I will try with another pi 3 but this time I am going to just trim solder to existing pads and not disolder anything, hope this works, thanks again for your reply.JujuPi wrote:BTW that red wire is in the wrong place - 5V comes above that grey wire

Had exactly the same problem after desoldering the ports ans cutting the PCB. At my second Pi3 I just cut off the ports using a side cutter. and left the Pi3 PCB as it is. I prefer a little unclean DMG case over a seconf broken Pi3

Much easier to just use a wire cutter to remove the ethernet and usbports.

Re: Raspberry pi 3 (Removed USB Ports) Broken?
Hi. how much is okay to cut from the pi3 pcb, where the ports are, without cutting some pads and lines that are in use. i still need 2 usb pads to solder on to.

i found the solution my self

So you finally cut the rpi3 following your drawings? If you did, how it went?
