Re: [GUIDE] [UPDATE! Part 2] Soldering School - AKA Don't wreck your new AIO board!
Thanks for the guide!
I'm trying to choose a decent temperature controlled soldering iron station for around £50 or less. Can anyone recommend a particular model? What about this one?

What about this:

I bought this one and have been really impressed with it:

Unless you spend top dollar (you don't need to) All you can really go on is any reviews (if there are any) and take a punt.
The fact it's temp controlled is already a massive plus point. So long as you have some decent solder you should be ready to roll. Just practice before going live!
Solder I use is:

Good luck.

Re: [GUIDE] [UPDATE! Part 2] Soldering School - AKA Don't wreck your new AIO board!
Well this was a nice surprise!
(Phone charge port broke and it's my main way of using the forum right now. My temporary replacement is woefully terribad! So I'm not on much right now)
Anyway, thanks @wermy!
I'd always expected Google now to show me indieretronews articles I'd written to show up in my goog feed but that has yet to happen. This was a nice surprise especially since I've been a bit quiet on here lately.(Phone charge port broke and it's my main way of using the forum right now. Anyway, thanks @wermy!

Straight tags don't work anymore since the big forum software update... you need to quote people for notifications to happen. (or just post a reply in their thread..

Unfortunately I don't have any specific experience with random kit currently available. I've always used antex and weller either at work, uni home or hackerspace... I haven't bought my own soldering iron for over 10 years

Fortunately Lphillimore's comment pretty much nails it (and of course the advice in the main posts...)
