Damaged Screen control board

Post by ASMills85 » Sat May 27, 2017 2:16 pm

I got my Amazon backup screen today. My screen is variant 9. I followed the instructions to get it to run on 5v. While removing the chip I got a bit careless and rushed it. I ripped part of it off rather than desoldering. While doing that it took the only pad I needed with it. Am I SOL? Is there somewhere else I can solder into for the 5v? I have attached a picture of what it currently looks like. Thank you for your help. BTW I already ordered a replacement, I'd just rather not have to scrap this one.

There was no need to remove the chip... Your not the only one that's just gone with what the wiki says and butchered their board....

But you might be able to put the jumper on the 2nd pin (it's worth a try)

Damn, I almost tried that too. I saw none of the other variants required a removal. Thank you for the link. Hopefully my next board is this one as well. It looks to be smaller than most. I tried jumping the other pins and it didn't seem to work. Thanks though.

one word of advice, whatever the wiki says or states, have it reconfirmed by other members and builders before you start to implement it in your build....

the phrase "tried and tested" comes to mind.....

Wouldn't it make more sense to edit the Wiki if the instructions are wrong and causing people to break their boards?

either way the onus is on the individual....

it would be nice, but i guarantee you people will still find a way to mess things up on their own.... this forum is a great tool/help and if you cant be bothered to do your own due diligence you've only got yourself to blame (may sound harsh... apologies)

but every method by now has been tried and tested, so why ignore that....

I hadn't messed with the screen any, I wanted to finish my build first. Now that that is done I gave this a look. I was able to save the screen following your suggestion. Thank you.

I did have to scrape the board to find something to solder to. That is what the first picture is showing.
