Hybrid of existing screen HELP

Post by winnieblues » Wed May 31, 2017 6:13 am

Hello all,

I have ruined a total of 2 boards today. Feels bad when you think you have the Gearbest variant, but on closer inspection the parts are moved around (and the 5v mod isnt working)

Could someone identify my board? And if anyone has had success with it? Chip numbers have been poorly mspainted in

Thanks!

It looks like the screen @rodocop used:
http://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 781#p31781
For him it works without any mods. I have same screen, and it doesn't.

Yes, that looks like the screen I used from gearbest recently. (in my second GBZ i used a screen from gearbest which needed the 5v mod, and was identical to the screen shown in the wiki. In my third build I received one like you have shown, which is different from what I received on my last order.) I did not have to mod this one at all, although it seems that others have not been able to get it to work...

I saw this 5V mod mentioned in another thread on this type of screen, but since mine worked without modification I did not even try it...

By the way, how did you destroy the 2 screens? are you sure they are totally dead?

My GearBest screen also came ready to work at 5v, actually would work all the way down to 3.5V. I would test your screen first as my board looked just like yours. If not, I can confirm that this should fix your problem.

You can even use the bottom of that diode that is right next to the IC as that has direct connection to the IC pin in red and provides an easier and bigger soldering surface. Check continuity first just to be sure though. :)

I ordered 2 (due to me knowing i'd screw up). Plugged it in with 12v and i saw a spark on the board. Burned smell and completely fried. Seller is sending me another one for that one. 2nd one I tried the 5V mod you have pictured, but on pin 2 instead of 3. My bad

Didn't expect it to run 5v out of the box due to the other gearbest screen requiring a mod. So clumbsyness on my part then heh. @wermy should add this screen type to the wiki since idiots like me will identify gearbest variant 1 for this one haha

Thanks everyone for the help, will post back when i receive the new board

I got this board. How can I tell if it's 5v ready?

Only way to know for sure is to apply 5v to the input line and test outside the shell with composite connected. You can use any device that outputs composite and connected directly to the rca connector.

Any way you could dumb that down a little for me?
