great to see the progress and it seem like the finish line is in sight....

just a couple of things about the recent youtube update video (these may have already been raised)


i'm aware that you are in the process of making a tuturial video soon (and these will obviously be in there)

but can we get a heads up on the power switch and the size of the tactile buttons used, as most will be ordering from china and really small packets are notoriously always a long wait....


also helder released a few prototype button boards for sale (which were snapped up quickly), but the recent updates show the buttons have been moved in a little, how will that impact the guys that were lucky enough to snag a prototype board in terms of 3d printed parts (i'm assuming they'll be different to the updated version)

I can only answer for the pcb part, the pcbs I sold are already the new version with the button pads moved in like in the second build. The first build was wermy's DIY 3D pcb with copper tape, so you didn't bet burned on the pcb.

Quick question though, will you be able to use the micro USB as an OTG port?

Nope, that's taken up by the usb sound card I'm afraid. With the Pi 0 W though, you can still transfer roms and stuff over wifi.

Hey Wermy, quick question. Your video says powering the whole thing on battery without the powerboast is fine. Is that with a normal raspeberry pi zero, or with one with a gpu overclock?

That was without overclocking. Not sure how much that would affect battery life (I doubt too much).

This is the switch I used, simply because it's available at my local electronics store and is nice and small: https://www.adafruit.com/product/805 . The 3d-printed base has a couple little raised areas for a switch of that specific size, but I made those easy to snap off if you need to so you can use a different switch (should still try and get a small one, though).

Those prototypes he put up already had the buttons moved - you should be fine.

I know the average OHM of headphones is about 30(earbuds only being a fraction of that, my headphones are 38OHM) and most things can handle that.

You may be able to shuffle things around and make that happen - especially if you used a tiny battery charger in stead of a PowerBoost or something similar. I'm sure we'll see lots of variants/different takes on it as we did with the Game Boy Zero.

Ahh I'm not too great with stuff like this. Just going to follow with what's given to me, I'm sure if I REALLY wanted I could find some way. But I'm lazy and would probably break it. Thanks anyways!

The USB Sound Card is already setup for headphones so just put the headphones somewhere on the shell and skip the speaker.

That's a good point but people enjoy giving us ideas of things they want and cram it into the tight space already. Next we will get an analog stick or 2 request.

Hey guys! I found a cheap Bluetooth receiver, which will let you plug in any wired headphones or earbuds and use them wirelessly. I've seen some people talking about moding a headphone jack in place of the speaker, but with this you can keep the speaker and still have headphone functionality, unless of course you have headphones that are already wireless, but then you wouldn't need the jack. Anyway here's a cheap solution to use your earbuds without any fancy changes.
