Re: Razor's GBZ progress
@razor thanks I have an original color one but I think I can make this method wok well with the black framing the way I was already putting mine together.
Re: Razor's GBZ progress
Quick update. Finished the battery pack today and it's a tight fit but it works without any additional modifications to the battery bay. I now have a 3200mAh battery that charges with the powerboost.

And instead of using the micro usb breakout board, I used this part https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8533. The part has 5 pins on the back. I bent the 3 center pins out of the way and soldered red and black cables to pins 1 and 5 and hot glued it to keep everything in place. Much easier than getting the breakout board and cutting things off.

What is this small strip you put into the battery pack? Overcharge protection?

Re: Razor's GBZ progress
I am liking this battery pack. What source for the batteries did you use, and how did you wrap it?
Re: Razor's GBZ progress
Yep. The little circuit board is for charging protection. I got it here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221512994763Fleder wrote:Wow, that is actualy pretty cool.razor wrote:Quick update. I got the batteries from Battery junction. They were about ~$3 a piece. http://www.batteryjunction.com/li14reaasi38.htmlKilren wrote:I am liking this battery pack. What source for the batteries did you use, and how did you wrap it?
If you do end up getting those, get them with the tabs pre-added. Will make it easier to solder together.
The blue wrap is a heat shrink tubing. Specifically, I got it from here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231576509806

The 14500 batteries is a really cool idea! If I got the protected ones could I safely skip the overcharge protection board?razor wrote:I got the batteries from Battery junction. They were about ~$3 a piece. http://www.batteryjunction.com/li14reaasi38.html

Also, is there any reason I couldn't use the button top batteries if I modify the battery contacts like this and connect jumpers between all the negative and positive contacts so they're in parallel?

I'm thinking then I could just pop them in like you would regular AA batteries in an unmodded DMG.
Re: Razor's GBZ progress
Theoretically that would work but when I was researching, the protected ones are slightly longer and after having installed my battery pack, it was a really tight fit so I'm not sure the protected ones will fit.hencethus wrote:The 14500 batteries is a really cool idea! do you connect the battery pack directly to the adafruit power boost charger 1000?
If so, where did you get the connector that fits the PowerBoost??
