I was also wondering how were you planning on providing power do the screen? Were you going to solder or were you using a Micro USB? If you soldered it do you have any pictures?
thanks....

heres how i will have mine wired up (already tested and works perfectly)

Image

positive is attached to the bridged the switch points
negative is attached to the usb port point at the top nearest to the switch....

if you dont want to remove either the switch of the usb port, you can wire from under the board

also there no need to cut/trim/butcher the board too much (just a little off one end is needed)....
this is how my board will be in the build...

thanks....
and its great to see people using this screen....
and its a great first build...

i've already considered making my own cable, but its too much work and you can buy cables that suit (like the fpv cable i have)

as it is i can complete my build using these cables or the other adapters i have....
but i dont want to start modifying the rear case to the extent you have....

the amount that you've modified the back of yours, you didnt need to make your own cable, you could of just used the adapter that came with screen and connected the Pi3 to it (the only thing that would have had to have been repositioned would have been the safe shutdown pcb)

my aim with all my builds is less is more, and i'm always trying to find cleaner and more simpler solutions (so maybe others can draw from)

i'm not a fan of too many modification to the case (especially the battery compartment)
and hot glue is a big NO NO....

my only concerns with your build (and i appriciate it was your first) is that both the screens pcb and the Pi3 kick off a reasonable amount of heat, which doesnt bode well for hot glue (one of the main reasons i dont prefer it in these kind of builds)

but i'm glad to see people moving away from the composite screens, and trying alternatives....

just one last thing, how have you found the screen, another member has been complaining that he experiences lag from his have you had any similar experiences.
Thanks.

I'm also concerned about the hot glue, not really found of how I did the things.
And the modifications I had to do on the back of the case was a pain :o
But I have some more of this screen on order, and the newer version too, to make other builds (not hot glue too).
This time with Pi Zero, and maybe I'll try to house an Orange Pi on another one(zero maybe if heat is not a problem).
Here my second build, withoit hot glue, except to secure the screen and power switch. But with composite screen this time, still waiting for HDMI screens to be delivered to France.

(Still a lot of hot glue to me, have to rework that)
About the lag, I played few hours, and no problem like other seem to find.

I'm also concerned about the hot glue
there are so many options now, that you dont need to use hot glue....
my personal opinion, hot glue is needed when prototyping or testing out something.... or even for a very first build....

but we're so deep in to so many builds now, that other alternatives really have to be the norm....
but its the opposite... hot glue is still the go to method (its just not progress IMHO)
and i understand why, its easy to use and readily available (but i wouldnt buy anything thats cost around $100 held together with hot glue, so why would i be happy making something like that)....

my first build i used this screen bracket (it is epoxied in to the case)

Image

it allows the screen to slide into the case without the need for securing it in (maybe a small amount of vhb tape, if needed... i didnt need any)

there are so many things out there now making these builds easier and easier.....

I didn't even think about epoxy for security the bracket.
And I use it a lot on other projects :o

Thanks for sharing your bracket for this screen, I was trying to design one, but I'm crap at 3D... I'll stick with just printing them, maybe little adjustment if needed but that's it :D

i ended up removing the button wells as they didnt line up with my holes (id drilled the holes before i had printed the bracket)

Hello,
Your work is really clean !
I intend to take inspiration from your build to make my first Gameboy Zero.
I have already started to buy some components, including this famous hdmi display.
I intend to use these combination of cable,
first : (not mine just an example)

second :

In your opinion ?
Thanks in advance.

the first cable should work out ok (can be used with the adapter that comes with the screen), and is something i might use...

the second cable (flat FPV cable) should work if you use it with something else...
but i'm might use one similar but with these connectors, it will just be used on its own (which might make cable management easier)

Image

i'm still waiiting on my adapters to arrive from china (any day now hopefully)

Image

and if they work, may strip this cable down and use with the adapter (similar to your first cable, but just a little longer)

Image

i'm also going to utilise the cartridge to house something, and most probably will be my power boost as i also might have the status LEDs in the top of the cartridge housing/case (just seems sense to put everything in one spot)

as the HDMI port is being used for the screen, its not posible to have this accessible in the build like previous GBZs, so i'm still waiting to figure out where the micro sd card would be exposed/accessed (this primarily will depend on the cable used for the screen)

good luck with your build....
and dont forget (or be shy) to post you progress....

You could use PRST-Tech's card reader in the cartridge ? with the use of a half cartridge, you should still have room for powerboost and leds. ?

too many wires....

i'm trying to aim for a simple build, and as i'm already using the GPIO for controls, plus a safe shutdown and a HDMI cable... thats gonna make alot of wires connected to the pi zero

it might be a option to consider, if its not posible to place the pi zero somewhere....
