Dead Raspberry Pi Help

Post by orionpax » Mon Aug 28, 2017 10:30 pm

The Problem:
Raspberry Pi does not power on anymore.

What I know:
I've tried mounting a new image to another sd, and powering the pi directly.
The Pi did work previously.
I had almost finished the build but I got a bright white screen, then a dim white screen.
Before the pi failed I tested each gpio for continuity.
I could not get continuity between the Vcc and 5v so i re-soldered

Questions:
Is helder's pcb salvageable?
How do I test the pcb to ensure it can still be used after removing the dead pi?
Should I be concerned with the other components if I know the Pi is dead?

what happened to make it fail? What happens when you plug it into the micro HDMI and hook upto a TV?

Assuming the green light doesn't flash on it and the SD card has been tested and confirmed ok elsewhere?

Its salvageable but likely you'll need a heatgun to remove it.

yeah, getting the pi off is going to be very difficult. see the thread about removing a backwards soldered pi, as it's the same set of problems, except you haven't got the flat side facing the connections so it'll be EVEN harder...

if the pi itself is definitely dead, I'd suggest using a dremel to remove the main portion of the pi and carefully cut the gpio into sections to make it easier to remove. it's risky though as if you cut through the board you can damage the traces of the button pcb

I'm not exactly sure what caused it. I was trying to troubleshoot my white screen issue, then on the following day it wouldn't power on at all. After spending an hour or so in the forums I tested the Raspberry Pi and it didn't respond.
There is no green light or response when plugged directly into micro HDMI.
The SD card is a known good.

Did you wire up the sound card to the USB pads? I'm asking because maybe you shorted something there... Those pads are in an extremely tight spot and it's super easy to short a connection.
