3.2" SPI LCD (working and ready for a build)
i've still got a HDMI build on the go (which i should complete in around a weeks time)
but i'm still looking for other screen alternatives that are better than the composite screens that everyone is still sticking to....
as the mintyPi 2.4" screens are alot clearer than the 3.5" composite screen in the many GBZ builds....
a SPI screen for the GBZ had to be explored
so i decided to buy one of these.....
Aliexpress Link
now because i had some experience with these types of screen when doing my TintyPi build (mintyPi) as I didnt start of with a kit, but with only one of Helder prototype PCB.....
2.2" TFT to 2.4" TFT
moosepr has a fantastic guide for getting these screens working (used both times, without any issues)
[Guide] ili9341 SPI TFT Screen on Retropie
moosepr also has a pcb board that can be used with a bare screen
ili9341 minimal PCB
iliPlate.brd
and even though i didnt use either as I had a 2.4" screen board left over from my previous build i would still recommend them
3.2" screen compared to the Kedei 3.5" HDMI
Just a quick setup to test everything work (and it did on the first try)
I had to flip the board, so that it doesnt over hang
now the camera on my phone doesnt do it justice (the image is clearer than in the pics)
getting 60fps in menues (which is a good start)
and the gameplay seemed fine, but bear in mind this was just an initial test.....
so far so good......
i've still got to come up with a screw bracket for this screen.....
and i'm also currently working on making my own screen surround as well....
Screen Surround - printing techniques ?
it should look something like this....
any progress will be posted after my HDMI build is completely......

no its a 320x240 or 240x320 which ever way you wanna look at it....
its basically the larger (bigger) version to the screen thats used in the mintyPi

Very nice! I'm planning to use this screen in a few GBA SP builds. The 2.8in SPI screen fits nicely as well, but this 3.2in one is nice with the larger viewing area. Glad to see someone else is using it

this screen i believe is similar (could be wrong) to that used in the Freeplay Zero GBA builds, so i had a good feeling it was worth a try....
for a GBA SP its perfect, it has low profile if wired efficiently

I really like how you are always trying to go a step further in your builds and how innovative you are always trying to be !
And you are right, people are still sticking with those composite screens while we have other alternatives... but yes, those alternatives need more work to be done
Keep going

I have been thinking of doing an kind of all in one for the GBZ with such a screen and if you need I can get 3.5 inch SPI LCDs too same pinout and resolution.

Re: 3.2" SPI LCD (working and ready for a build)
a 3.5" screen would be nice (if you've got a hook up, i'd appriciate it)....
it would hopefully be good in not needing a different screen surround to the ones already available....
and also messing around with screw brackets...
just one reservation (but i'm sure you've got it covered)
(images just for reference)
the ribbon/connection would really have to be on the bottom, as if it was on the side (like the 3.2" screen) there may be an issue fitting it into the gameboy case/shell....
but one things certain, these screens are a way forward for these GB builds....
better than the composite and until someone comes up with an easy solution for a DPI screen....

Problem is the ribbon is like the 3.2 inch for the 3.5. It's real hard to find screens with that orientation and in spi for a reasonable price.
