So, what exactly did you do?
USB form your PC to the Step-Up and measured Step-Up GND and VOUT?
Can you try to find a power adaptor that has 5v and enough A and try it again?
Maybe it is a problem with the input power to the pololu.
If not, you could buy a U3V12F12, since they are really cheap, and do it like i did.
As you can see, mine worked great and it is definitely cheaper than buying a new display.

There may be a way to make this work, but i am not that adept at this stuff and don't know if there is some kind of mechanism/circuit that only outputs 3.3v because of something you did. Maybe you are just feeding it not enough mAh? I really have no idea, but the power supply might be a thing to try before you throw in the towel.

Yes. I took a USB connector and soldered the VCC to the VOUT and the GND to GND on the step up. Pluged it up and didn't get anything on the screen.

It's all good Fleder, I am going to use this one: http://www.amazon.com/BW-3-5-Inch-Monit ... detailpage which seems to work on 5v from the guild from this post: http://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15 if you remove the IC. I ordered 2 of them just in case I messed one up and I am tired of messing around with it. I ended up taking everything a part and will start fresh this weekend.

The reason I did not order the step-up you suggested is because I live in the US and I would have to order it from over seas. It would take a while to get here. Because I have another screen, I will just do that.

But the display seems to be okay, if there is not enough voltage coming out of the step-up.
But if you are okay with a fresh start, so be it :D

If you need the Pololu i got, here are 2 websites in the USA where you can buy it.

Good luck!

I've got this one from GearBest (Shop Link)

Tried with the yellow plugged on a camescope and the red and black on a USB power supply=> Black Screen.

(Fixed, see other post at bottom of page)
I tested the ePathChina screen that people have been asking about and I am NOT able to get it to run off 5v. I removed the IC and jumpered the cable. http://s20.postimg.org/nxs4pycwt/desolder_IC.jpg

Are we sure this screen can run?

I've made my noname 12V screen from GearBest works easily on 5V by following the wiki wiring.
The solders are tiny and not easy to do, but with little patience it works ! ;)

Not tried it with the Pi yet.

I've already make a try with a camcorder composite output and powered by an USB => it works well ;)

I got the same one from ATian. It is way too big to fit and I don't even know if you could dremel it down looking at the components.

The box also looks a bit different from other ones I am seeing on here. I would say that this one is undesirable for this project.

Are there any consistently good choices to find this screen? I am hoping to do one of the Amazon Prime ones since I don't want to wait but I also don't want to play the display lottery and keep returning them :) Other prime option sellers I see are:

AM-Sellers
Niceshopping
Goodwill Sky

Thanks!

I didn't even try to use it since it wouldnt fit and there were components off to the side that looked like you wouldnt want to dremel off.

I ordered this one from ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5-Car-Rear-Vi ... SwGvhT4ZQX

it just came today.. took only a few days. since the one we both had had the buttons on the right i figured I would look for a screen where the buttons are on the left. lol.

I fixed it. I was reading a little bit and found that unless there is a video signal being inputed into the display, it will never turn on. I had my White and Yellow cables reversed which is weird because in another display having white in the square and yellow in the circle the display worked... I confirmed the proper setup and have it posted in a picture below. Thank for everyone's help, including you Fleder
