If you watch wermy's original videos you can see how he sets one up with a USB hub and teensy. In the end it's all up to personal preference.

not a problem, nothing wrong with questions, this can all be overwhelming if you've never done it before. Ask as many questions as you need! I'm looking forward to you positing your build in the showoff corner!

(I deleted a previous post I got links mixed up)

So I was about to order everything and then stumbled across this an a option. Compared to what I was going to buy originally. Wouldn't this just be a better option? So then with this pcb the tinkerboy couldn't I just wire it to the Pi for gpio controls? Then the only this left would be in terms of assembly ( USB for keyboard etc and micro usb for charging and screen)

That board is essentially the same as the one you have linked, it is a basic PCB and you can wire the controls via GPIO or Teensy, I've actually used this exact board (one version down with no volume wheel connection, but I didn't use a volume wheel anyway). The only thing about this board that is better is that you can route audio, and power through the board which is handy. Also, if I recall correctly TinkerBoy is out of stock on these anyways, and I know he has also been producing some other boards with more features, which you could wait for as well.

As you can see, in terms of wiring they will be essentially the same, but if you wait for TinkerBOY to release some of his v2 boards you'll get build in audio amp and controls via a teensy.

remember, any orders to china are going to take extra long if you order now... it's new year there and they usually take 2 weeks celebrating it... (the whole country goes into shutdown more or less, at least the manufacturing/businesses do)

Ah yeah, I hadn't checked for a bit, but last I checked I thought they were sold out. Either way, it's a good board to use. If you don't mind shipping from Philippines, mine took about 4 weeks to get to Canada.

I see it's the V2's that are still sold out though.
