[help!] USB not working?

Post by skrapps914 » Wed Jun 08, 2016 11:05 pm

Forgive me but I am new to this. Is there any reason why the USB port wouldn't be working?

I think I have it soldered/connected correctly

The USB stick should be flashing red, but it doesn't seem to be getting power

Do I have it connected right?

I think that your wiring is not correct and you switched them up. Check them and switch them to see if it helps.

I've tried that. i actually plugged this into my pc first before i cut it and attached it to the pi and it worked. but for some reason, the pi doesn't seem to want to power it

Oh god, this makes me cringe. Wiring a USB Drive and fixing it with hot glue? That is new
Get a USB A Breakout board and solder this onto your RPi0, then just plug in your drive, this way you should (hopefully) not mix up your connections.

If you are in the EU, i've got a spare one.

Also: You know you have to mount drives in Linux, right? I am not sure if RetroPie has got auto mounting. Never tested it.

haha, i was trying to test out the usb hub i had, thats all. connected it properly, but it didnt power.. i then tried a set of thicker wire and it worked. i got power into the drive.. i wasnt trying to mount it, was just testing for power. i did connect the pi up to the tv, via hdmi. tried putting a usb keyboard in, but the keyboard wouldnt power up. im thinking because its a 4 port usb hub, it needs the dc power adapter, to give it more juice for the keyboard

Oh, sorry, misread this then. Hmm... a keyboard should not require an active USB Hub.
