Powerboost 1000 Alt?

Post by rivera82falcon » Wed May 09, 2018 6:50 am

My local electronics store carries a Velleman Projects Li-Ion Battery Charger Board MM104 for a few dollars cheaper than the Adafruit Powerboost 1000. In my limited power knowledge, it looks as if it should be doing the same thing. Would I be okay using one of these with a 3.7v 2500mAH battery (from Adafruit) for charging and playing? Just charging? Or stay away, place the order and get the Adafruit version that is known to already work?

A Powerboost amplifies the battery voltage to 5v, what you linked there is just a battery charger that also outputs the battery voltage. You're better off get 5 of these for less than $3 total with battery protection too if you were considering that module.

Don't contact me about obtaining my board files (as you will not get them). If my Boards or PCB Kits are sold out, they will be restocked as soon as I can get them and there is demand for them. You can join the mailing list on my Website to be notified when they are available.

I appreciate the reply. I took the drive to Micro Center and picked up the Powerboost 1000. I'd rather see this project to the end correctly than to take unnecessary shortcuts especially with the battery. They did have a similar usb charger like what you linked with a battery as well ($9 for 3.7v 1600mAH and $15 2500mAH) so it's not a bad price for a battery AND a charger to keep on the side. Thank you for your help...time to work on the controller now.
