Re: Fury's Gameboy Pocket Pi [in progress]
Hey it's been awhile since your latest progress. Is this still build still being worked on? I have a similar one I'm doing and all I have left to do is software and trying to find a replacement for using a teensy controller.
Re: Fury's Gameboy Pocket Pi [in progress]
I have not worked on it lately. I will probably pick it all up again this holiday season as it's generally a pretty slow time for me.

I haven't done it myself, but you could go the GPIO route and wire straight to the pi.furikazashi wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2017 11:18 amHey it's been awhile since your latest progress. Here's the post about it.

It's amazing that you fit a 3,5" into the pocket, really impresive. The 3,5" in considered the standard in most game boy dmg builts, but there's always an obvious physical limitation when it comes to pocket builts.
I'm building a pocket too right now, do you think this screen will fit in the pocket?
https://www.waveshare.com/3.2inch-rpi-lcd-b.htm
The idea is to detach the display from the board and then cut the board which is the largest part of the display and remove the pin headers to make it flat. Following my measurements it fills pretty well the bezels without exceding too much like the 3,5" screen does. I can't wait to receive the shell and components and try them out.
Thanks for sharing you work Fury, looks very good and promising, good luck.

a 3.2" screen should fit with modifications to the case. But why not just buy one that already has the board removed? Also, have you looked into the Gaboze Pocaio and the Pocket Pi FE. Both are drop in solutions for the gameboy pocket. The Pocket Pi FE uses a 2.6" screen that almost fits perfectly, while the Gaboze Pocaio Plus uses the same 2.6" screen (the non plus version uses a 2.4" screen, but you could just as easily solder a 2.8 or 3.2 screen to it instead)

You guys should be using the aio boards, make your lives a lot easier haha, if you are adament you want to do it this way though you should be using smaller, SPI screens, like the 2.8 ili9341 or 2.6 ili9342

Yeah, with these new AIO options for the pocket, there is not much use to Frankenstein one together anymore!

Re: Fury's Gameboy Pocket Pi [in progress]
I've already purchased a gaboze pocaio pcb without components, so thanks for sharing that link, that was what I've been looking for. However, I've never soldered pins that thin and with that tiny gaps, is it easy to solder one by one with a thin pencil soldering iron?rodocop wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 2:26 pma 3.2" screen should fit with modifications to the case. Another thing that may be limiting is the position of the ribbon cable, the optimal position will be in the bottom in my opinion, so it doesn't push the screen to the left or right, but we will see how it goes, thank you for helping.

Re: Fury's Gameboy Pocket Pi [in progress]
No problem, soldering those ribbons is not too hard, just use a fine tip like you mentioned and do one at a time. I like to add some liquid flux to both the board and the ribbon itself.
As for the placement of the ribbon it's fine on the side like that, and if you happen to use a screen bigger than 2.4" (2.8 or 3.2), you can adjust the screen size in the config.txt to fit the available screen area of the pocket glass lens.
These are the 2.4 and 2.8 screens I have used in the past as well (just know that if you use the 2.8 or 3.2 in a gaboze you'll need to remove the top screw posts, as well as a lot of the existing screen bracket. and i'm not certain if a 3.2 will fit, but I know a 2.8 will):

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pcs-2- ... 4c4dEb3jNv
Also note, the gaboze + and the pocket pi FE both have ribbon connections on the bottom, with the 2.6" screens.

Re: Fury's Gameboy Pocket Pi [in progress]
What i do is apply flux, melt solder on the tip and drag the tip across the ribbon, works very well
