Help finding proper screen

Post by Daviddk226 » Sat Dec 29, 2018 10:49 am

Sorry if this isn't the proper place to ask this, but i'm looking for a compatible screen to use for my gameboy pi project.
I'm relatively new to using the raspberry pi so i'm not sure what will work and what wont, i know i want a composite screen to be connected that will fit within the original screen size or as close as possible of the original gameboy so a screen around 2.5 in. I just havent been able to find a screen with these requirements at all and the few with some potential are extremely expensive. One that is on the cheaper side
and might work is this camcorder with a screen
: https://www.amazon.com/Amoji-Rotatable- ... kup+screen
from what i can see it has an av output so my guess is the screen can be hooked up this way if ripped out from it to use?
If anybody could either point me in a better direction for one or maybe has some idea if this screen i mentioned might work it would be much appreciated , thank you. :)

just buy any listed 3.5" screen from the wiki. If you want to fit it in the original gameboy screen opening, just use overscan to make the screen fit, i've done it a few times, works fine.

This is what I always use, no 5v mod needed

See a few examples of ones I have done:

probably easier than finding a smaller screen that fits the opening.

I hadn’t thought of this but it looks like an easier way of doing it to fit exactly the screen size, I was hoping to use a smaller screen also so I could fit the power led since my goal is a for a stock looking build. And would this affect the hdmi output if I was switching between them or would it only do the overscan for when outputting to the composite screen? Thanks for the idea 👍
