Finally got my Gameboy Zero put back together and into working order. I had it assembled before Christmas but found I had somehow put a large scratch on the composite screen and didn't notice until after having it assembled. So I pulled it all apart and ordered a new Composite screen, you can't really see it in the pictures but I've modified several GB Cartridge models I've come across to hollow them out and add holes for tactile switches so i can move my Composite screen button board to the Cartridge slot. I'm still trying to sort out why my safe shut down isn't behaving but I'm sure that is just something I'm doing.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the build/rebuild and have learned a ton especially about modifying various 3D models in TinkerCAD which makes me curious about a more in-depth modelling option. All the better my boys have taken an interest and my oldest has done enough extra chores to get parts of his own and we've begun assembling his own GBZ.
