BW screen not turning on
BW screen not turning on
I have the AV wired up properly and the find going to the pin next to the AV pin and the red wire to the 5v pin on the gpio. I made sure the pi worked but when I power it on the screen doesn’t turn on or anything, no backlight nothing. Any help is appreciated!

Re: BW screen not turning on
So you have a properly burn image on the SD card (this is needed, since the screen will not display anything without an AV signal), and you have it wired as seen below:
I've seen lots of people mix up the AV and ground, since the TV label is actually beside the ground pin on the Pi zero W. Also, what screen are you using, did it need a 5V mod? Did you test it beforehand with a 12V power source?

Re: BW screen not turning on
Okay, so, on to my other questions, what screen is it? and what mod did you need to perform? got any pictures of your wiring?
Again, did you test the screen beforehand to make sure it worked from the start.
Some pics of your wiring will be very helpful.

Re: BW screen not turning on
I mean the soldering seems to be okay. But I cant tell for certain with the pics.
I dont think you needed to remove that chip. But even so, it should still work with it removed.
Double check all connections and make sure neighboring pins are not shorted. You could also try the other av source. (Move the yellow wire over on the screen pcb).

Re: BW screen not turning on
i just had to pull this model out of a build because it seemed to be pulling too much current on start up. i swapped it out for a gearbest, which works way better (read: actually works). i'm not sure what happened or changed, since it was working for a while, but then wouldn't boot up from a psu any longer (although using a usb plug directly to the pi did turn it on).
i've had nothing but bad luck with those bw screens. they seem like a good option since they're cheap and fast, but they are just terrible and frustrating. every single one i've tried has had either dead pixels, an annoying flicker, or both - when they even work at all. it's totally not worth it, and SO much better to just wait for the gearbest, if you're going to do composite. someone should really just remove the bw stuff off the wiki or put a big disclaimer there.
i'm moving on to do spi next, and looking forward to not having to make space for those control boards (but i'm sure there'll be plenty of new frustrations/challenges for spi).
