HELP? - Odd Screen Problem

Post by g-raffballs » Tue Jul 30, 2019 7:34 am

Hi Peeps,
I'm getting along with my first Zero build, but I ran into an odd Screen Problem. maybe someone (with electrician skills :geek: ) can help?

I run the BW SCREEN variant 13 and bridged the chip to run it on 5V like discribed in the wiki:
(https://www.sudomod.com/wiki/images/f/f ... ithmod.jpg)

THE PROBLEM:
if I have the 5v bridge aplied, the whole System (Pi, screen, arduino) doesn't turn on at all.
If I remove the bridge and power on everything poweres up, the screen is white.
AND if I apply the bridge after I powered up, the screen pops on perfectly and everything works fine.

So it's like you'd have to power the screen a little later then everything else and then it actualy works.
I already googled a bit and found that there is chips like NE555 or analogue methods to delay a power up of the screen and probably you could also do that with the arduino? And of course I could add an extra Screen-Power-Switch, but that wouldn't be to elegant...

So first of all, why the heck is that happening? I don't understand how that works on an electrician level, much less fixing it.

Second, Does anyone have a clue?!

Pictures of my weird solution: Combining the two wires, after a Power up, fixes the problem.

have you tried removing the chip completely, and just running the power wire to the pin, where the chip was? I think that people have had better luck on that model with that approach.

Also what power board are you using to power all of This? Might be too much for it to handle on bootup.

100% this, I had similar issues to what you’re experiencing and if you clip that little fucker out you’ll be back in business

Damn, I thought it was the LCD ribbon cable that had split but maybe it was this all along why my lcd screen wasn't working.

When the new LCD comes in, I'll test it first and if it still doesn't work, I'll be clipping that chip off the controller board.

I wasted hours trying to figure that one out!! Thanks guys for the solution.

Yooo guys, sorry I didn't see all the nice answers.
I had a nano booster 500ma runnin and a friend hinted that this is probably a power problem. That it draws peak power at the beginning and the tiny Charge modul can't handle it.
No I spent a fortune on that 1000c from adafruit and tadaaa - Problem NOT solved...

So here I am, back again. I'll try removing the Chip now and report back!
