usb hub stops working when soldered to the pi zero

Could this be related to interference (or varying wire distances) of some sort? I'm thinking the way that Wermy's sd card did not work through the custom wired card reader versus inserting it directly into the raspberry pi zero.
All people mentioning the problem have stated that it works when connecting the cable through the port, but not when soldering the wires directly.

I'm having the same issues and for some reason it works and then it doesn't, been like this for a couple of weeks. When hub is connected to the pi via usb socket soldered to pads it works fine. Then hub soldered to pads it intermittently works and the hub led doesn't light up anymore, I think it's a power problem, I only have usb audio and WiFi connected. I don't think it's a pin issue.

Do you have something wired/soldered onto the power supply of the Pi0? Those pads where the USB Power Supply should be.

I have usb power and the power cables from powerboost soldered to both pins.

I ment the usb hub power, I had alot of issues running these from the powerboost, so I moved to the pi pads, should I move them back then?

Yes. What kind of issues did you have? Maybe something on your USB Hub is faulty?
Try removing everything and then plug them in one after another, to figure out what may be the cause.

I can confirm that supplying power to the usb hub from the PB1000C was the issue for me, moving the power to the pads on the RP0 worked flawlessy. With all 4 usb hubs I have this problem with.

This sounds like a problem with GND. You need a common ground for all of your parts.

Im having the same propblem. i get 5volts in all the power leads, but i know no way of testing the data. I think the usb board is faulty, unless there is some code i dont know of that needs fixing

I also have the same problem randomly. I test on the test pad connections and I get 5v in both working and not working scenarios.

The data test pad connections however get weird results.
Working:
Green (D+) I get 0.01V
White (D-) I also get 0.01V

Not Working:
Green (D+) can be 0.00V or ~3.3V
White (D-) always ~3.3V

So whenever I see low voltages on the test pad connections I get hopeful. I say hopeful because on the hub side I can have anomalies as well. On the supply side I can get the high voltages or low voltages. If I do get low voltages on the supply side I will still see the high voltages on the USB port connections.

I haven't logged exact attempts but I feel like I'm having about a 25% success rate with hubs.

Im working with knowledge from an intro to physics lab but how does one measure/detect shorts exactly?
