Login password/buttons not working

I’m getting power and the system boots up to the main screen, but when I try to use my buttons in general, the only one I can get to work occasionally is start. It also asks me for a login password sometimes, to which I have no idea what to respond. We tested the connections and everything makes continuity, so we’ve determined it has to be something to do with the software. Any advice/help?

Also, I tried reflashing the SD card. I can tell it’s something with the software because pressing buttons gives us jumbles of code when we’re on such a page.

I tried using that image just now and I'm still not able to press any buttons. Do you think I need to try flashing a different SD card? Anything else you can suggest?

I was one of the preorders for the hardware, so if any software update since then has changed something, please let me know.
