Gameboy X - Custom Shell Design
Hey All,
Just wanted to see if anyone would be interested in checking out this custom shell I've designed. I'm really looking for people to give this shell a shot and then give me some good detailed feedback so that I can improve the design.

This is a custom shell that is a modern and simple take on the Gameboy Pocket. The dimensions are identical to the pocket with some style features that are taken from the original GB.
Features a 4 button ABXY pad, USB C charging port, headphone jack and 2 potentiometer openings.
This shell was designed with the 3.5in Screen in mind, and if you do intend to fit the screen, you must remove the outermost metal casing; its not very difficult to do. I also designed this shell with the RPI 3A+ in mind as its form factor offers a good balance of power and size.
I plan on making mine run in DPI since I made a bunch of DPI boards, but I believe you could always fit a composite driver board inside.
I sell the 4 button PCB's for $3 mailed within the US and the button setup uses 2 of the "D-Pad sillicone" things, one for the D-pad and the other for the 4 button setup.
3D model files can be found here at Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3741883
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Future plans include building mine and doing a showcase and finding a good design solution for shoulder buttons. Ive never really liked the idea of how the shoulder buttons are placed on the GBZ.
I had my prototype shell made by Shapeways since my college's SLA printer pooped the bed. But an SLA printer would probably offer the best results.

Looks like a very interesting idea.
Is there any bezel around the screen or does it go from one side to the other? (If that makes any sense)

Re: Gameboy X - Custom Shell Design
So as far as the screen bezel, I used a LQ035NC111 screen (3.5" TFT) and removed the metal housing and after that metal housing has been taken off, the screen should lay flush and inset into the front part of the shell.
the screen also doesn't run the full width of the shell either if thats what you mean, there is roughly ~0.8mm on each side of the screen.

You have one built to show how it all comes together instead of us trying to imagine how it's supposed to all fit?

Don't contact me about obtaining my board files (as you will not get them). If my Boards or PCB Kits are sold out, they will be restocked as soon as I can get them and there is demand for them. You can join the mailing list on my Website to be notified when they are available.

Re: Gameboy X - Custom Shell Design
Just 3D printed the Mk02_Top face down and used some support. The only Area that i will say that comes out bad is the speaker holes. For some reason the support there is fusing even is i lower the density and support level to the lowest. Perhaps making it a completely flat will fix it.

Re: Gameboy X - Custom Shell Design
I have built using the Mk01 design and have it assembled. I need to get around to taking photos and doing a simple write-up.
If anyone can show me how their print turned out so I can adjust the design, please link them and Ill take a look. GraciousNuts if you can take some photos it would be very helpful for making some changes.

Re: Gameboy X - Custom Shell Design
I plan on resin printing this tomorrow. It literally fits with only a mm or so to spare on an Elegoo mars buildplate.
2 x 6 hour prints for the front and back
